Restoring Your Piano to Standard Pitch (A440)

Over time, pianos naturally drift out of tune especially if they haven’t been maintained regularly or have been exposed to changes in humidity, temperature, or movement. If your piano hasn’t been tuned in several years, it may require a pitch adjustment before it can be finely tuned.

WHAT ARE PITCH ADJUSTMENTS?

Pitch adjustment (sometimes called a pitch raise or pitch correction) is the process of bringing all the strings of your piano closer to standard pitch before fine tuning can occur. If a piano is significantly flat or sharp, it must first be stabilized to avoid tuning instability and damage to the instrument.

This is especially necessary if:

Your piano hasn’t been tuned in 2+ years

You recently moved your piano

Your piano sounds noticeably out of tune or dull

You’re preparing your piano for a professional tuning
