Restoring Touch, Precision, and Playability

Over time, every piano — no matter how well-made — starts to feel “off.” Keys may lose their responsiveness, notes might sound uneven, and the overall experience of playing can feel frustrating. That’s where regulation comes in.

At McDonald’s Piano Tuning, I offer precise regulation services that restore your piano’s action mechanism so it feels and performs like it should, responsive, consistent, and expressive.

WHAT IS REGULATION?

Regulation is the adjustment of the mechanical parts inside your piano (called the "action") to ensure they work together properly. With more than 9,000 parts in a piano’s action, even minor wear or environmental changes can throw things off.

Regulation focuses on:

Key height and depth

Hammer alignment and travel

Let-off and drop settings

Backcheck distance

Pedal responsiveness
